Kohler gave one of these engines a 3 year commercial warranty. It gave another one 90 days. Same displacement, same bore, same stroke, same block. Here is what Kohler's own paperwork says each one is actually worth. The Command Pro, the Courage and the 7000 Series are three versions of the same basic V-twin, built three different ways. In this video we weigh them against each other using spec sheets, service tables and warranty documents, not opinions: dry weights (94 lb vs 91 lb vs 85 lb), valve adjustment intervals (200 hours vs 500 hours vs never), oil filter schedules, the 300 hour oil interval that voids itself, the 7000 Series ignition coil failures, and the single cylinder Courage problem that decides whether a used machine is worth buying at all. By the end you will know which engine is under your deck, what is going to kill it, and roughly how many hours you have before it happens. KEY NUMBERS Command Pro CV740: 725cc, 83mm x 67mm, 94 lb dry, hydraulic lifters, 3 year commercial warranty Courage SV740: 725cc, 83mm x 67mm, 91 lb dry, 200 hour valve adjustment, 90 day commercial warranty 7000 Series KT740: 725cc, 83mm x 67mm, 85 lb dry, 500 hour valve adjustment, based on Command Pro design Sources used: Kohler and Rehlko product pages, service and maintenance tables (Sept 2024), warranty documents, GIE Expo product announcements (Oct 2013, Oct 2016, Oct 2017), and dealer technician reports. If your engine has never had a valve adjustment and there is a Courage under the deck, that is your next job, not next season's job. Which engine are you running, and how many hours are on it?
