10 El Pollito, the New Forest Caminito Community Tango Orchestra & Friends, Southampton 2026

LIVE TANGO MUSIC! At the invitation of the Music in The City Festival 2026 in Southampton, on Saturday 12th September in The Vault, members of the New Forest Caminito Community Tango Orchestra were joined by musicians from The London Caminito Community Tango Orchestra and others under the musical direction of Simon Cook to contribute a lively programme of tango music. El Pollito means “little chick”. It was composed in 1916 by Francisco Canaro, one of the giants of la Guadia Vieja tango music. The cheerful music captures in its slightly comical rhythms the jerky movements of the young bird. In the years which followed it was a popular choice for many famous orchestras to record, including Canaro’s own.
