That Time a Man Sold a FAKE Country...

In 1822, a Scottish war hero sold London a brand new country. It had a capital city, a bank, a cathedral, and gold lying in the rivers. Hundreds of people bought land there and sailed across the Atlantic to start a new life. There was just one problem: Poyais did not exist. This is the story of Gregor MacGregor, the self-proclaimed "Cazique of Poyais", who invented an entire nation, sold its land and government bonds to British investors, and somehow walked away free.
