System Logistics for Conad Nord Ovest

Italy's first fully automated fruit and vegetable picking system: here's how System Logistics helped Conad Nord Ovest transform fresh produce handling at its main logistics hub in Montopoli in Val d'Arno (PI). The hub prepares and ships around 75 million cases a year - 28 million of them fresh products including fruit, vegetables, meat, deli, cheese and fresh fish - across a 55,000 sqm facility. At the core of the new 6,000 sqm system is SortMate, System Logistics' latest technology for organised retail and fresh product handling: it autonomously manages the entire inbound and outbound sorting process for fruit and vegetables using anthropomorphic robots with integrated vision and laser-guided AGVs, handling up to 43,000 crates a day and assembling pallets for 240 stores. The project, completed between November 2021 and October 2022, also converted the site's refrigeration from freon to ammonia, added 6 new loading bays, and removed structural barriers to integrate the new fresh-handling area - cutting food waste and reducing operators' exposure to heavy manual work along the way.
