Storage at -25°C, order prep at 0-4°C: here's how System Logistics helped Gruppo Tosano speed up pallet preparation for its frozen goods division while sharply reducing operators' exposure to extreme-cold environments. The system combines an automated high-bay warehouse (HBW) - 5 stacker cranes, 26 metres tall, storing around 17,400 double-depth pallets across 1,700 SKUs at -25°C, with a throughput of 120 pallets/h in and 160 out - with a fully automatic picking system (MOPS). Full pallets are broken down at an automatic layer-depalletizing island or a manual station, cases are buffered in a 6-miniload system with roughly 28,000 storage cells, and mixed order pallets are built by two Dual-Robot automatic palletizing islands plus one manual station. Spanning 8,000 sqm across two floors, the ground level houses inbound and outbound bays connected via a linear shuttle system, while the first floor handles pallet dismantling, linked to the HBW through an SVL loop. Sized to handle 15,000 picking cases a day, the system follows strict case sequencing rules based on customer-specific pallet composition requirements.
