Day 13 – The Bayou State Trail | Best Hiking in Louisiana?

Day 13 on the Bayou State Trail started slow and sweet at Oak Campground along the Sandstone Trail. I lounged for a bit, waiting on Pops to arrive—and he delivered big time. Fresh shoes, socks, shorts, and snacks gave me a much-needed morale boost. Once I hit the trail, I made my way toward the Backbone Trail—a route that Brian and John have been hyping up since day one. And they weren’t wrong. This was hands down the best hiking I’ve experienced in Louisiana. Real elevation gain and loss, rocks, roots—it actually felt like I was on a southern slice of the Appalachian Trail. Though I originally planned to tackle the Caroline Dormon Trail afterward, I decided to hold off until tomorrow to soak up some time with Pops.
