BrahMos vs Pralay: India’s New Defence Strategy |
India has successfully test-fired the indigenous Pralay Missile off the Odisha coast on November 3, 2026, marking another major milestone in the country's growing conventional strike capabilities. Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), this quasi-ballistic missile has a reported range of 150–500 kilometres and can manoeuvre during flight, making its trajectory more difficult for enemy air-defence systems to predict and intercept.
Often described as the bigger brother of the BrahMos Missile, Pralay offers a different set of capabilities. While BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile, Pralay is a solid-fuel, surface-to-surface missile designed for precision strikes against enemy military infrastructure. Its reported warhead capacity ranges from 350 to 1,000 kilograms, while its Circular Error Probable (CEP) is reportedly less than 10 metres.
The latest Pralay Missile test follows several successful milestones, including consecutive flight trials in July 2025 and a rapid salvo launch of two missiles from a single mobile launcher in December 2025. Designed for deployment by the Indian Army and Indian Air Force, Pralay could target enemy airbases, radar installations, fuel depots, command centres and military logistics hubs.
Reports also suggest that Armenia and the Philippines have expressed interest in acquiring this indigenous Indian Missile, potentially strengthening India's defence export ambitions. For India, this development carries significant strategic importance amid evolving India-Pakistan tensions and the changing geopolitical landscape following Operation Sindoor. While the BrahMos Missile Test and BrahMos Missile Launch milestones have strengthened India's precision-strike capabilities, Pralay adds another dimension to India's military preparedness.
From India vs Pakistan military calculations to the possibility of a future India Pakistan War, India's expanding missile arsenal is becoming an important part of its defence strategy.
