We had a compensation model. We'd been through it, both sides were good, this was done. Then, at the last minute, something else came on. Student loan repayment. It hadn't come up once in the entire process. The problem wasn't that they asked. Student loan repayment is a completely reasonable thing to want. The problem was when they asked — and what the timing told me is that they hadn't worked out what they actually needed before any of this started. This is what a physician contract negotiation looks like from the other side of the table. WHAT'S IN THIS VIDEO — Why the negotiation is a risk assessment and not a money conversation — The negotiation is the only preview we get of what working with you is like — Three tactics to recognize: the low first offer, the Friday deadline, and the conditional close — "If I can get you this number, are you definitely going to sign?" — why that one is a real request and not just pressure, and what saying yes actually commits you to — The plan you need before the back and forth starts, and why it has to cover all of it — Three small changes in wording that get better answers — The green flag worth watching for I spent ten years as a hiring executive for a health system, interviewing physicians across more than a dozen specialties. I made the final call, and I was the person sitting across the table during the negotiation. I am not a lawyer and I don't pretend to be one. ——— NEGOTIATION ADVISOR If you've got an offer in front of you and you want somebody in your corner who has sat on the hiring side of this: https://www.dradvisors.co/negotiation...
