Does your church actually need its own app? In this Church Tech Crash Course lesson, instructor Jacob Poettker explores the reasons a church may—or may not—choose to add a mobile app to its digital communication strategy. This lesson encourages churches to think beyond the novelty of having an app and consider whether it genuinely serves the needs of the congregation. Topics include: Reasons churches choose to use mobile apps Situations where a church app may be useful Reasons an app may not be necessary Considering how an app fits alongside your church website, email, and social media Thinking about cost, maintenance, staff capacity, and ongoing use Evaluating whether people in your congregation are actually likely to use it A church app can be a helpful communication tool, but it is not automatically the right choice for every congregation. The goal is to choose technology that supports your church’s communication needs rather than adding another platform simply because it is available. This video is Module 5.4: Should Your Church Have an App? in the Digital Congregational Communication module of the Church Tech Crash Course.
