A man named Dan Rivera did not check out of his Gettysburg hotel room on the morning of July 13, 2025. They attempted CPR. The doll he had been carrying the night before was somewhere else — and that is where this case file begins.
This is the Annabelle doll laid out plainly, version against version. Before the Warrens, the doll was an ordinary cloth Raggedy Ann from a hobby store. A nursing student named Donna shared a Hartford, Connecticut apartment with her roommate Angie, and kept the doll in the bedroom. Donna reported finding it on its knees — a posture she said a stuffed cloth doll cannot hold on its own. Then came the parchment-paper notes Angie says she never owned, and the marks a man found one morning that healed and faded within roughly two days.
Father Hegan was uncomfortable enough to pass the case on. Cooke carried it next, and when he was done he called Ed and Lorraine Warren. Ed Warren took the doll himself, and the Warren Occult Museum grew around it — a cloth doll now behind glass with a warning on the door. Tony Spera, their son-in-law and the museum's caretaker, repeated the account at a 2014 presentation, citing the Warrens as his source.
We test what each claim rests on. The priests' discomfort, the car trouble, the wound: none independently observed. The parchment paper is the one thing an outside investigator could, in principle, check — and it sits outside the misidentification chain. Meanwhile the film the franchise produced shows a cracked-porcelain Victorian doll, not the cloth one that stayed in its case.
Turn it over with us, and answer the closing question in the comments.
💬 Of everything in this case, the parchment-paper notes are the one claim an outsider could actually check — do you think they'd hold up, or fall apart?
