Christians are not called to simply believe without asking questions. Scripture encourages us to seek answers, engage our faith with our minds, and be prepared to give a reason for the hope we have in Christ.
In this third sermon in the Q&A series, Pastor Straton Michelle looks at five questions from the Old Testament: Why was unleavened bread used in the Passover? Why are so many Old Testament laws and instructions repeated? Why couldn’t the Israelites eat certain kinds of fat? How was the golden calf turned into dust? And why did the Israelites complain about not having meat?
Throughout these questions, the message emphasizes the importance of context when studying Scripture and shows how seemingly small or confusing details can have a purpose within the larger story of the Bible. The sermon also points back to the deeper questions of faith and the importance of developing the habit of seeking answers rather than being afraid to ask questions.
The message concludes by considering the repeated failures of the Israelites—and of humanity in general—and why our need for a Savior is ultimately at the heart of Scripture.
Sermon recorded on April 27, 2025.
