The Flamingos - I'll Be Home (BSN Stereo Mix)

The Flamingos were an R&B vocal group from Chicago. They started on Chicago’s Chance Records label in March, 1953. They left Chance after their December, 1953 session, although Chance issued a few more of their singles until the label folded in 1954. The Flamingos switched to another Chicago label, Deejay Al Benson’s Parrot Records, in early 1954. They were with Parrot about a year. Then in early spring, 1955 they signed with Chicago’s Checker label, a Chess subsidiary. Members of the Flamingos in 1955-56 were Jake Carey (bass), Zeke Carey (second tenor), Johnny Carter (first tenor), Paul Wilson (baritone), and Nate Nelson (tenor). “I’ll Be Home” was their third single on Checker, released in January, 1956. It reached #5 on Billboard’s R&B chart. It also made #5 on Cashbox and #6 on Music Vendor’s pop charts. Locally, it scored top-10 in Pittsburgh on both R&B and pop stations, top-10 pop in Houston, and top-10 R&B in Dallas. Pat Boone recorded a pop “cover version.”
