Fall asleep in Edo-period Japan. Tonight we spend one slow day in the life of a samurai, during the long Tokugawa peace of about 1603 to 1868: dawn in a castle town, the samurai house, dressing and the two swords, breakfast and rice stipends, the walk to the castle, paperwork and protocol, martial practice in peacetime, the samurai's wife and household, the road to Edo and alternate attendance, books and the domain school, tea, poetry and the quiet arts, making ends meet, seasons and festivals, the way of the warrior, the end of the samurai in the Meiji era, and finally a calm evening in the castle town. Calm, slow narration for sleep, insomnia, relaxing, or studying. After the story ends, about 40 minutes of soft ambient sound continue, so nothing wakes you.
