🚨 Make sure to turn off "Voice boost" in the player settings (⚙️). It pushes the vocals forward and buries everything else, which wrecks the original mix. Seoul is known for neon signs, tall buildings, and K-pop, and that's true. You'll hear K-pop in cafés and out on the street. Gongdeok, where this video was shot, is a busy part of the city. Four subway lines meet at Gongdeok Station, and apartment and office towers stand all around it. But in between all that, there are old market alleys hidden away. Take exit 5 at Gongdeok Station, and you'll find one. The jokbal (braised pig's feet) alley in Gongdeok Market started with one tiny restaurant in a corner of the market. It made sundae-guk (blood sausage soup) for the people who worked there, and jokbal to go with their drinks. When it did well, a bag shop in the market stopped selling bags and started selling sundae and jokbal too. More jokbal places followed, and that's how the jokbal alley came to be. Some of these places have been around for more than 40 years. These days, older people who drank here when they were young come back during the day. At night, the alley fills up with younger people. Seoul's subculture isn't big, but it's well established. Listening bars and vintage culture keep growing, and they've even made it into this market. A bag shop here once became a jokbal place. Now a space that used to be a shoe factory has become a record bar. That's VANGAD. The owners looked all over central Seoul for a spot with no record bars around, and they picked this one because they thought it would be fun to have music coming out of a traditional market. When they came in to fix up the place, they found an old cabinet the shoe company had left behind, with the company's name still on it. They named the bar after the company. All four of them still have day jobs, and they take turns behind the bar at night. One of them, Justino Hahm, started buying records when music he used to listen to disappeared from a streaming service. He figured it could happen to any song. They chose the speakers after hearing them at other bars, and the amps were recommended by other bar owners. On the bar's first anniversary, the regulars and the DJs who had played there all showed up, and the after-party moved to another spot in the market. This is side b. Both sides were recorded the same night, and Justino played the records. We'll keep showing you hidden places like this. If you're ever in Korea, we'll tell you where to go. ─────────────── 📍 VANGAD Record Bar Unit 3, 1F, Gongdeok Market, 19 Manrijae-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea 서울 마포구 만리재로 19, 공덕시장 1층 3호 Mon–Sat 19:00–02:00 / Closed Sundays   / vangad.recordbar   ─────────────── [Tech Specs] Turntable: Technics SL-1200MK5 Cartridge: Ortofon Concorde MkII DJ Mixer: Pioneer DJM-400 Amplifier: Luxman A45 / Sansui AU-D33 Speakers: Altec A7 / Hive-1 Recording: TASCAM DR-40X ─────────────── 00:00 Midnight Sea — CHS 06:04 最後の楽園 — Haruomi Hosono 09:58 琉球みやび (三) — Kiyoshi Yamaya 13:21 Take Five — Minoru Muraoka 18:15 어두운 골목길 — Jung Sung-jo & The Messengers 22:25 가시리 — Lee Pan-Geun & Korean Jazz Quintet '78 29:02 The Positive and the Negative — Minoru Muraoka 37:38 Ecruteak City — Braxton Burks ─────────────── side a    • Sorry, We Don't Sell Pig's Feet Here | Bra...   ─────────────── Locabrary   / locabrary   🎧 Justino Hahm   / justino.hahm   ─────────────── #japanesejazz #jazzfunk #vinylplaylist #koreanlisteningbar #noaiplaylist All tracks belong to their respective owners.
