Flowing Water 흐르는 물 is an LP café in Sinpo-dong, Incheon, opened in January 1989. This is the second of two videos filmed there on the same night, and it was edited to stand on its own. The café's name comes from a line in a poem by Jeong Huiseong; the whole line was the original name, and it was later cut to two words. The café has moved several times since, and it has never left Sinpo-dong. A place named after flowing has stayed in one neighborhood, and what flowed instead was the neighborhood itself — the center of Incheon after the port opened, the old downtown now. Wonseop Ahn, who runs the café, was twenty-nine when he put a turntable in a small room. In the early years there were few customers, so he read and wrote poems between records. The café was named after a poem, and in those years he was writing poems of his own. He picked these jazz records out of five thousand and played them through equipment the café has used for thirty-seven years. What you are hearing is one stretch of that night.
