That is the wrong question, and the right one takes ten minutes and two numbers off a brokerage site. Real numbers on standing rigging, sails, repower, crane fees, haul and block at ten to twenty-two dollars a foot, bottom paint labour, and boatyard rates that now run one hundred to one hundred and seventy-five dollars an hour, with northeast and west coast yards twenty to forty percent above Gulf Coast pricing. 📉 Then the half of the ledger nobody counts: the cost of buying. Survey per foot plus the haul it requires, engine and rig surveys, transaction taxes, registration, delivery, insurance conditions, and the money every boat demands in its first year. Assume eight to fifteen percent on top of the purchase price before the boat is genuinely ready. 📊 And what the 2026 market just did to all of it. Average listing time has gone from 34 days to 52. Nearly one seller in two is cutting the asking price, by an average of fifteen percent. In the 40 to 55 foot segment, one brokerage estimates around thirty percent of listed boats will never find a buyer.
