Ed Sheeran got booed off a stage in a dingy pub. A few years later he was headlining Wembley Stadium. In between, he slept on floors, busked for whatever people dropped in his guitar case, and every label that could have made him a star told him no.
This is the full story of how Ed Sheeran went from sleeping rough with a guitar to selling well over 150 million records — and why the people who rejected him got it completely wrong.
Born in Halifax in 1991 and raised in Framlingham, Suffolk, Ed grew up in a musical family. He had a stutter as a kid. He started writing songs as a teenager and left home for London with a guitar and no plan B. He played hundreds of shows in a single year. He sold his own CDs hand to hand after gigs. He wasn't waiting to be discovered — he was doing the discovering.
Then came the rejection. Label after label passed. Too different. Too small. Not enough of a sure thing.
And then, in 2011, one yes changed everything. The No. 5 Collaborations Project. Asylum Records. "The A-Team." The debut album "+" hitting number one. Brit Awards. A Taylor Swift tour. Wembley Stadium in July 2015.
Here's what the labels got wrong.
