This week was short, but we made a start on a new workshop project: Overhead shelves for extra storage above the workbenches.
We pulled four long boards from our storage rack. They used to be outdoor decking, and they’ve definitely seen better days—painted, cracked, and warped.
The first shelf will be 175 cm long, so we joined two boards together. We filled the biggest cracks, trimmed the boards to length, straightened their edges on the table saw, and joined them with glue and pocket-hole screws.
The screws do more than hold the boards together. They also act like internal clamps, pulling the pieces tightly together while the glue sets.

Next time, we’ll fit the shelf to the workshop wall, smooth it out, and hang it in place. We’ll also start building the next shelf.
