Stepping into the Basic Mountaineering Course at NIMAS (National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports) in Dirang! Week 1 was an absolute whirlwind of heat, heavy gear, discipline, and non-stop movement. Here is how it all went down: ​The Journey & Prep: ​Aug 16: Landed in Guwahati to scorching heat and intense humidity. ​Aug 17: Made it to the NIMAS campus in Dirang a day early to unpack, rest, and settle in. ​Aug 18: The rest of the batch arrived! We got assigned our ropes and received all our technical gear issues. ​Week 1 Highlights: ​Aug 19 (Orientation): Formal course intro—getting briefed on campus rules, training expectations, and what lies ahead. ​Aug 20 (NIMAS Temple): Started the journey with blessings at the campus temple. ​Aug 21 (Monastery & Rock): Visited the stunning Thupsung Dhargye Ling Monastery in Dirang before jumping right into initial rock climbing techniques. ​Aug 22 (Climbing Drills): Working on basic footwork, balance, and handholds on rock. ​Aug 23 (Helmet Top Trek): A brutal 12 km trek up to Helmet Top under a blazing sun—definitely tested everyone's endurance early on! ​Aug 24 (Dirang Market): A quick visit to Dirang town for last-minute essentials before we move deeper into field training.
