A song I wrote about the danger of the rocks below the Lighthouse and how a clipper managed to avoid disaster.

The skies were stormy,
And the thunder rolled,
The lightning cracked,
The sea below boiled.
Above in the dark,
I looked out at the waves
From the top of the lighthouse,
Hoping all were safe.
(chorus) The beacon flashed out
Over a tempestuous sea,
I prayed that all mariners,
Would reach land safely.
The cliff around the point,
Was a treacherous one,
Many a ship was wrecked,
The crew long gone.
Then coming into view
I saw a ship's mast.
That stood tall in the light
Of the yellow beams flash.
Heading off course,
My heart missed a beat,
I sounded the warning,
The foghorns voice was deep
(instrumental)
(chorus) The beacon flashed out
Over a tempestuous sea,
I prayed that all mariners,
Would reach land safely.
The cliff around the point,
Was a treacherous one,
Many a ship had been wrecked,
The crew long gone.
The wild wind howled,
Torrential raindrops fell,
As the clipper grew near,
Plunging through the swell.
Helpless I stood,
I could hear the men cry,
Willing the ship to turn,
And sail against the tide.
(chorus) The beacon flashed out
Over a tempestuous sea,
I prayed that all mariners,
Would reach land safely.
The cliff around the point,
Was a treacherous one,
Many a ship had been wrecked,
The crew long gone.
I felt time had stopped,
Only the lighthouse light glowed.
Then slowly the crew ,
Managed to steer the boat.
Away she turned ,
From the rocks of doom.
They made for the harbour,
And the lights of the town.
(instrumental)
They sailed into the harbour,
And the lights of the town.
