Why Was Little Carmine the Smartest Man in The Sopranos?

Little Carmine Lupertazzi was mocked as “Brainless the Second.” But while Johnny Sack, Phil Leotardo, and Tony Soprano fought for power, Little Carmine did something none of them could do: he walked away. In this North Jersey Files analysis, we look at why Little Carmine’s surrender may have been one of the smartest decisions in The Sopranos. His strange dream about the empty box, Nicole’s warning about becoming the “wealthiest widow,” the war with Johnny Sack, and the infamous “whatever happened there” scene all reveal something deeper about the world David Chase created. Little Carmine may not have been a secret mastermind. But he understood something Tony, Johnny Sack, and Phil never could: sometimes the only way to win the game is to stop playing it.
