The fifth webinar in our 12 Months, 12 Domains webinar series, which takes a deeper look at the Self-Reliance Index (SRI) one domain at a time, examined how safety influences refugees’ ability to build sustainable and dignified lives across different displacement contexts.
Following a presentation on the development of the SRI’s safety domain, including its testing and validation, webinar panelists explored the relationship between safety and self-reliance by reflecting on policies and practices that help create more inclusive environments and strengthen access to support systems. The discussion considered the role of gender-based violence prevention and response services, the importance of accessible and equitable social protection, and the impact of discrimination on participation in economic and social life.
This webinar was moderated by Ned Meerdink, Training and Technical Support Manager for the RSRI. Speakers included:
Dr. Ilana Seff | Research Associate Professor, Washington University in St. Louis
Adriana Monar | Innovation Manager for Latin America and the Caribbean, Corus International
Tamale Musa Ssali | Co-Founder, Legal Awareness And Rights Protection Initiative (LARPI)
Helena Minchew | Global Lead, Protection Policy and Advocacy, International Rescue Committee
