Himeji Castle (姫路城) is Japan's largest and best-preserved original castle – a UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Treasure that has never burned, collapsed, or been rebuilt since it was completed in 1609. It even survived the WWII air raids on Himeji.
In this 4K walkthrough we go from Himeji Station to the top floor of the main keep, through the maze of gates and twisting paths designed to confuse attackers, then around the moat, the castle shrine and the old pillar exhibit. Rainy day, real castle sounds, no music.
📍 HIMEJI CASTLE – HOW TO GET THERE
• 15 min walk straight from JR Himeji Station (or 5 min by bus)
• From Osaka: ~30 min by Shinkansen, ~1 hr by JR Special Rapid
• From Kyoto: ~50 min by Shinkansen
• Open 9:00–17:00 (last entry 16:00) – closed Dec 29–30
💴 PRICES SEEN IN THIS VIDEO
• Himeji Castle: ¥2,500 adult
• Combo ticket with Koko-en Garden next door: available at the same counter
• Himeji City Zoo (inside the castle grounds): ¥250 adult / ¥50 child
✅ GOOD TO KNOW
• You'll be given a free shoe bag – the main keep is no-shoes, and you carry them with you all the way up
• Stairs get steeper and ceilings lower on every floor – hold the rail, especially going down
• No vending machines inside the paid area; bottled drinks with caps are OK to bring in
• Multilingual ticket machines and pamphlets; credit cards and e-money accepted
• Best photo spots: Sannomaru Square (front), Bizen-maru (looking up at the keep), the moat by Sakuramon Bridge
• Drones are prohibited
• Cherry blossom season (early April) is the most beautiful – and the most crowded
