We were about to lose almost 60 lives that day.
If Fire Officer Amit Revankar had not reached the Merces scrapyard at the exact right time, understood the danger, and acted immediately — dozens of people would have died.
He rescued those who had fainted, pulled people to safety, and personally ensured they were admitted to hospital.
This is not just a heroic story.
This is a damning question for Goa:
Why does the state only wake up after citizens die?
Why were no real preventive steps taken despite repeated warnings from villagers?
Has disaster management in Goa completely failed?
Activist Tanoj Adwalpalkar and villagers have approached the Vigilance Department demanding Amit Revankar be felicitated on 19th December for saving lives that the system failed to protect.
Watch the full ground report and interview.
Comment below: Should Goa wait for the next tragedy or act NOW?
