The two men were riding a Splendor motorcycle and attempted to escape after the crime. However, when the woman raised an alarm, people nearby chased them. With public assistance, police constable Sonu apprehended the motorcycle rider on the spot, while his accomplice escaped with the snatched phone. Police later arrested the second accused as well. The stolen mobile phone and the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime have been recovered. According to Delhi Police, the incident took place at around 3 PM on October 6, 2026, near Barat Ghar in Chilla Village, Ghazipur Nala Road, Mayur Vihar, Delhi. The woman was travelling in an e-rickshaw and talking on her mobile phone when two men approached her on a Splendor motorcycle. The alleged modus operandi was straightforward: one accused, riding pillion, snatched the woman's Oppo mobile phone, after which both men attempted to flee towards the 18 Block Red Light on their motorcycle. The woman immediately raised an alarm, prompting members of the public to chase the suspects. With their assistance, Constable Sonu caught the motorcycle rider, identified as Fardeen, aged 24, son of Parvez and a resident of Trilokpuri, Delhi. His alleged accomplice, Arbaz Khan, aged 22 and also a resident of Trilokpuri, managed to escape with the mobile phone. Following the incident, Mayur Vihar Police Station registered FIR No. 436/2026 under Sections 304(2)/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Head Constable Ajay Kumar was assigned the investigation. During the investigation, police traced and arrested Arbaz Khan from 27 Block Park in Mayur Vihar. The snatched Oppo mobile phone was recovered from his possession. Police also seized the Splendor motorcycle allegedly used in the commission of the crime. The motorcycle's registration number was mentioned in the press release as DL 7SCT **, with the final digits not disclosed. Police investigation also revealed Fardeen's alleged previous involvement in two criminal cases. The first case, FIR No. 73/2024, was registered at Pandav Nagar Police Station under Sections 356/379/411 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The second case, FIR No. 127/2026, was registered at Kalyanpuri Police Station under Sections 304(2)/317(2)/3(5) of the BNS. According to police, Fardeen had previously been involved in these two cases. The operation was conducted under the close supervision of ACP Mayur Vihar Yogesh Malhotra and the leadership of Inspector Dinesh Moral, SHO of Mayur Vihar Police Station. East District Police had intensified patrolling, surveillance, preventive checking and local intelligence gathering to curb mobile snatching, vehicle theft and other street crimes. According to police, both accused have been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway. The press release issued by Rajeev Kumar, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, East District, Delhi, confirms the recovery of one Oppo mobile phone and the seizure of one Splendor motorcycle allegedly used in the offence.
