Raising Chickens on almost free feed — at QNI Farm, one grandmother in the hills of northern Vietnam feeds 1,000 chickens with black soldier fly larvae grown from kitchen waste. No more bags of store-bought feed, and a feed bill cut by nearly half.
This is real Rural Life on a Vietnamese Chicken Farm: banana stems, old rice and pumpkin skins turned into free chicken feed. We follow her for 30 days — building a bamboo fly cage, losing the first batch to cold rain, ants and hungry chickens, starting again… and the moment the larvae climb out and harvest themselves.
