The 44th Session of VAAA- VAA Academics has Dr Sarvesh B detailing on the basic considerations related to Complex Regional Pain Syndromes and Dr Ahmedi Fathima following it up with the management considerations.
Neuropathic Pain is a distinct entity which is diagnosed and managed with increasing effectiveness in the recent past. Previously underdiagnosed / misdiagnosed, with delays in initiating the correct treatment modalities led to patients being unnecessarily exposed to multiple drugs. Patients have had to suffer from psychological issues due to this mismanagement, apart from the non-recognition of the neuropathic component by non-specialists. The affliction is regional in distribution and two types are described (Type I and Type II). Further, the classification is into "warm" versus "cold" and sympathetically-maintained versus sympathetically-independent syndromes, with some specific prognostic & therapeutic options. Evaluation, physical and occupational therapy, pharmacotherapy and interventional measures are discussed eloquently.
Listen to the absorbing presentations from seasoned experts.
