He noted that a high explosive with a cavity facing a target left an indentation, and this later on cascaded into the invention of shaped charges, like HEAT, which is essentially an explosion that moves really hot metal into a jet stream, making it able to penetrate extremely thick amounts of metal. These shaped charges found their way onto tank rounds, rockets, and many other places, like the iconic RPG.
