Continue exploring the sounds of the North:    • Eira’s Journeys I Cinematic Nordic Folk Am...   In the farthest reaches of the North, where mountains rise like frozen giants and ancient forests disappear beneath endless snow, there are places where even the wind seems afraid to speak. The old people of the fjords tell stories of wolves who guard the secrets of winter. They say that beneath certain frozen lakes lies another world, hidden beneath layers of ice, where the memories of the forgotten remain undisturbed. Eira had heard these stories since childhood. But she had never believed them. Until the night the wolves came. It began with a sound beyond her cabin — a long, mournful howl rising from the darkness. Then another answered from the mountains, followed by a third, until the entire valley seemed to awaken. Eira stepped outside. Three wolves stood among the snow-covered pines. Their silver coats shimmered beneath the moonlight, and their amber eyes watched her without fear. Behind them, higher on the ridge, stood a magnificent dark wolf, almost invisible against the shadows. It looked directly at her. Then it turned and disappeared into the forest. For reasons she could not explain, Eira followed. The wolves led her through narrow mountain passages, past frozen waterfalls and trees bent beneath the weight of centuries of snow. As dawn approached, they reached a vast lake hidden between towering cliffs. Its surface was covered in ancient blue ice. Beneath it, faint shapes seemed to move in the darkness. Eira knelt beside the frozen surface and brushed away the snow. There, carved into the ice, she discovered an ancient symbol: a circle surrounded by four wolves, their heads turned toward the stars. Suddenly, the dark wolf appeared beside her. It lowered its head toward a narrow crack in the ice. From somewhere deep beneath the frozen lake came a faint sound — a low, resonant hum, like the distant echo of a forgotten song. Eira placed her hand against the ice. And the memories came. She saw hunters crossing the valley centuries ago, pursued by a terrible winter storm. She saw a small settlement disappearing beneath the snow. And she saw wolves gathering around the lost travelers, guiding the survivors toward shelter when every human path had vanished. The wolves had not hunted the people. They had saved them. For generations, the story had been forgotten, buried beneath new winters and the passing of time. Yet the wolves had continued to return, following the same ancient paths, guarding the place where the valley remembered its dead. Then Eira understood why they had brought her there. The ice was beginning to break. A deep fracture stretched across the lake, threatening to destroy the ancient markings. Whatever remained of the old story would soon disappear beneath the dark water. She returned to her cabin and brought back her father’s old lantern. Its golden flame illuminated the carvings as the wolves gathered around her. Working through the bitter cold, Eira traced the ancient symbols onto pieces of weathered wood. When the first rays of sunlight reached the mountains, the dark wolf approached her one final time. For a moment, their eyes met. Then the pack turned toward the forest. One by one, the wolves disappeared among the pines, leaving only their tracks in the fresh snow. Eira never saw them again. But every winter, when the northern winds swept across the frozen lake, she returned to the cliffs and lit her lantern. And sometimes, just before nightfall, a distant howl echoed between the mountains. Perhaps the wolves were still watching. Perhaps they had never truly left. For Eira had discovered something the old stories had tried to preserve: the wilderness remembers what humanity forgets, and some guardians walk the world unseen, carrying the weight of forgotten centuries. Beneath the ice, the past remained silent. Above it, the wolves continued their eternal watch. And somewhere in the deep blue shadows, the North kept its oldest promise. Some secrets are buried by time. Others are protected by the wild. And some memories are written not in words, but in the tracks left behind in the snow. 🎵 Eira Solberg — Wolves Beneath the Ice Layer 🎧 CREDITS: Music: Vinterdrommer Vocals & Lyrics: Eira Solberg Mixing & mastering: Vinterdrommer Video edit/artwork: Eira Solberg 🌐 FOLLOW: YouTube: Eira: ‪@EiraSolbergMusic‬ Vinterdrommer: ‪@Vinterdrommer‬ Music Usage Policy You may use this music in videos, podcasts and non-commercial creative projects with proper credit.
