SAN DIEGO OCEAN HITS 8.5 FEET! Mission Beach Berm BREACHED, Water at Doors (Latest Updates)
San Diego knew the date of the late October king tides, yet on Monday, October 26, a sand berm on Mission Bay gave way and seawater reached front doors on Mission Beach. The next morning the NOAA gauge at Broadway Pier peaked at 8.52 feet, more than a foot above predictions. City budget papers show a smaller beach crew, the next high tide window opens November 24, and Scripps oceanographer Mark Merrifield warns of very strong king tides around Christmas.
In this video, we ask why San Diego flooded on a date it already knew, from the berm that broke on Mission Bay and the gauge at Broadway Pier to the warning days ahead, the weak points in the sand, the smaller beach crew, the storm drains that must be shut, the damage nobody has totaled, the flooding of past years from 1983 to this fall, and the king tide dates still to come.
EWN (Extreme Weather Network) covers floods, hurricanes and other extreme weather around the world as it develops, with real footage and verified facts from official sources and trusted news outlets.
