Avery knows about the rabbit on the moon. Then Kai tells her there's someone else up there: Wu Gang, a man with an axe, chopping a tree. Every time he chops it, it grows back. And then what? That's it. He's still there. Avery cannot leave a story without an ending. So she draws it four - one a night, with crayons - and each is bigger than the last. Ending four needs a second axe, a ladder, the rabbit's help, and Spec the puppy holding the ladder. Kai listens politely to all four, and says they are good, and that they are not it. What children find out: some stories have no ending, and that is on purpose. Wu Gang chops the tree, it grows back, and he is still there. And the dark patches on the moon don't move - they're the same patches every night, so two friends can point at the same one. For grown-ups: an episode about a story that does not care whether you're comfortable, and a mom who doesn't settle it - she just remembers a song her own mother sings that goes round and never ends. Wu Gang is a traditional tale, retold here as Kai's family tells it.
