CRICKET has an IDENTITY CRISIS

Cricket has an identity crisis. It can't decide if it's about countries or franchises, which format matters most, or how much cricket is too much, and every time it tries to fix that, it changes its mind. Why did South Africa send a Test team to New Zealand where half the players had never played a Test? Why are some of the world's best players quitting international cricket in their prime? Why does India keep its players at home while IPL owners buy teams all over the world? And why does the ICC keep scrapping competitions, then bringing them back? At the end: the four words from the ICC itself that explain why none of this gets fixed. The ICC, chaired by Jay Shah since December 2024, set up a committee in May 2026 to look at franchise cricket and the international calendar. If you ran cricket, which format would you get rid of? Tell me in the comments. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ CHAPTERS 0:00 - Introduction 00:23 - Country or franchise? 03:27 - Too many formats 04:41- Too much cricket ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ SOURCES ESPNcricinfo: Firdose Moonda (13 Feb 2024) · Tristan Lavalette (11 Nov 2025) · Matt Roller (5 Jun 2025) · ESPNcricinfo staff (24 Jan 2026, 9 Aug 2022) ICC Board media release, 1 June 2026 ICC Future Tours Programme ESPNcricinfo Statsguru ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Night Watchman: cricket documentaries, properly sourced.
