A day on Charles Mill Lake that definitely didn't go according to plan.
Chubs and I started the morning dodging rain while catching white bass and freshwater drum. Then the sky opened up, and we found ourselves racing our kayaks back to the marina to outrun a thunderstorm.
The folks at the marina couldn't have been kinder. While we waited out the storm, they welcomed us inside with a cup of coffee for me, fresh water and treats for Chubs, and reminded me that there are still some amazing people in this world.
Once the rain cleared, we headed back onto the lake, removed a large 12-foot board floating in the water before it could damage someone's boat, and got right back to fishing. That's when we landed a largemouth bass and even a baby walleye before every camera battery decided it had enough.
The day ended with friends at a campsite, good food, and great conversation.
Charles Mill Lake turned into one of my favorite places to kayak fish in Ohio. If you're in the area, I highly recommend giving it a visit. I'll be back soon for a full camping and fishing trip.
