Llanelli Station was opened by the South Wales Railway in 1852 and became part of the Great Western Railway in 1863. Gowerton and Pembrey & Burry Port lie either side. It serves around 330,000 pasengers a year and until 1970 it was the terminus of the Heart of Wales Line. In 1911 two people were killed here in relation to strike action. The large goods shed reflects that even in the 1950s over 50 private companies used the railway for goods deliveries.
