Join me for an October garden tour in the UK as I take a look around My Windy Garden after the recent storms (Austen and Boelo). 🍂🌿 Despite the strong winds and heavy rain, there is still plenty of autumn colour, some late-season flowers and vegetables growing in the garden.
In this late October 2026 garden tour, I'll show you how my ornamental trees, roses, shrubs and kitchen garden plants are coping with the changing weather, from fiery red and orange autumn leaves to roses still blooming and tomatoes ripening outdoors.
🍁 AUTUMN TREES & COLOUR
Discover the beautiful autumn foliage of my dwarf ornamental cherry trees, including Royal Burgundy and Kanzan, as well as a couple of Acer trees (Japanese maples), which bring stunning shades of green, yellow, orange and red to the garden:
Acer palmatum 'Sango-kaku', also known as the Coral Bark Maple or Senkaki (we've had it for about three years)
small red-leaved Acer that has grown beautifully since I bought it last year.
I'll also show you my Gala apple tree and a Conference pear tree.
🌹 ROSES, FLOWERING PLANTS & PERENNIALS
There are still some lovely flowers to enjoy at the end of October, including my Port Sunlight rose and The Pilgrim climbing rose. I'll also show you Clematis montana, pansies, flowering rosemary, cyclamens, Brunnera macrophylla 'Jack Frost' and my colour-changing hydrangea.
🥕 THE KITCHEN GARDEN
In the vegetable garden, outdoor tomatoes and cucumbers are still growing despite the autumn weather, and the chilli peppers are turning red. I'll also check on the cabbages, salad crops and purple sprouting broccoli as I begin thinking about preparing the garden for winter.
🌿 GARDENING IN AUTUMN
Late October is a time for enjoying the last colours of the season, assessing storm damage, deciding which plants need tidying and planning the next gardening jobs. Not everything looks perfect, and that's part of the reality of gardening!
If you enjoy peaceful garden tours, seasonal gardening inspiration, ornamental trees, roses, homegrown vegetables and gardening in the UK, I hope you'll enjoy this little walk around My Windy Garden.
