I Didn’t Realise How Much We Needed This

We went on a cruise through the Norwegian fjords expecting a family holiday. But somewhere between the landscapes, conversations, days at sea and simply having nowhere else to be, I started to realise how much we had needed the space. Life recently has meant being parents, partners, professionals, children to ageing parents and carrying a number of other responsibilities at the same time. Stepping away didn't make any of those things disappear. It did give us the chance to notice each other again. To watch our children becoming their own people. To have conversations about our marriage that normal life doesn't always leave room for. And, perhaps most importantly, to rest. As we sailed back towards the UK, all those responsibilities were still waiting. Maybe that's the point. A holiday doesn't remove real life. But sometimes stepping away reminds you who all of that real life is actually for. This isn't a travel guide.
