The Perfect Home Invasion Story — Until Her Fitbit Kept Walking

On December 23, 2015, police in Ellington, Connecticut, found Richard Dabate zip-tied to a chair with a terrifying story: a masked intruder in camouflage had shot his wife, Connie, in the basement. But Connie's Fitbit, her Facebook posts and the house's own alarm system told a very different story, minute by minute. In this episode: the double life behind a picture-perfect family, the 1,217 feet that broke an alibi, the police dog that found only one scent, the 2022 trial, and the 2025 appeal that upheld the conviction despite prosecutorial missteps. Legal status: Richard Dabate was convicted in May 2022 of murder, tampering with evidence and making a false statement, and sentenced to 65 years. The Connecticut Supreme Court affirmed in March 2025. He maintains his innocence. Should wearable data be enough to help convict someone of murder? Tell me in the comments. This video is for documentary and educational purposes, and is based on court records and published reporting. Claims not proven in court are presented as allegations. The victim's children are not named or shown. #TrueCrime #FitbitMurder #ConnieDabate #RichardDabate #Connecticut
