A Prayer For The Sin You Keep Repeating | A Quiet Morning Prayer

A morning prayer for the person who woke up carrying yesterday. The thing you swore you would never do again, and did again on Tuesday. The sin you have repented of so many times that you have started to feel like a fraud. There is a particular shame in failing at the same thing twice, and it whispers a lie: that God must be tired of you by now, that mercy has a limit you are getting close to. This prayer answers that lie with the most quoted sentence about hope in the Bible, written not in a good season but in the wreckage of Lamentations: "It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness." Lamentations 3:22-23 (KJV) His compassions fail not. There is no counter. You are not using up a limited supply. You may be tired of you. God is not tired of you. We look at Peter, restored and recommissioned at a fire of coals on the very beach, three questions for three denials. And the woman in John 8, given both halves of grace: neither do I condemn thee, and go and sin no more. Yesterday is not erased from the record of your life.
