On a hot summer day, Dot finds Willow Pond at the bottom of the hill, and the friends meet a shy little frog named Pebble. Pebble shows them a game: drop things in the water and see which ones float and which ones sink. Kids guess along with a leaf, a little stone, a twig, a feather and a big rock, then sort and count them: three plus two makes five. Mister Barnaby explains why a big leaf floats but a little stone sinks.
Guess along: will it float, or sink?
Try it at home: with a grown-up, fill a bowl with water and test a metal spoon, a wooden block and an apple. Guess first! Will each one float or sink?
