Instrument rating ground school, episode 13: Lost Communications and Instrument Emergencies.
Two things can go quiet in instrument conditions: the radio, and the instruments themselves. For the first, there is a rule that tells you exactly which route, which altitude and when to start the approach, so ATC can protect the airspace you are going to use. For the second, there is an order: fly first, then diagnose, then talk. In this episode we work through both, with a radio failure on a training flight and an alternator failure near Muan.
