How One Woman Is Changing Thousands of Lives

What does it mean to live with a greater purpose? For Sonia Hanson, it means showing up for others. From feeding families and supporting individuals experiencing hardship to partnering with local nonprofits and serving her community, Sonia has dedicated her life to helping people find hope when they need it most. After experiencing financial struggles herself as a young parent, Sonia never forgot what it felt like to worry about providing for her family. Today, that experience fuels her passion for serving others across the Charleston community through volunteer work, community outreach, food distribution efforts, and partnerships that create lasting impact. In recognition of her extraordinary commitment to service, SouthState employees selected Sonia as the first recipient of the Greater Purpose Award, honoring a team member who exemplifies the company's commitment to faith, family, and service to others. As part of the award, Sonia directed a $10,000 donation to Soul Harvesters Outreach Ministry, a nonprofit helping families move from striving to thriving through housing support, food assistance, and community programs. "It's going to take a community of us." Watch Sonia's inspiring story and see how one person can spark hope, dignity, and positive change in the lives of others.
