The Greatest Basketball Player From Every Pennsylvania County

Pennsylvania has 67 counties. Every single one of them put somebody on a basketball court, from Wilt Chamberlain and Kobe Bryant down to mill towns you could drive through in two minutes. This is the most famous basketball player from every Pennsylvania county, all 67, start to finish. Some counties gave us Hall of Famers. Some gave us one guy, exactly one, and the whole county still talks about him. And a few come up completely empty, which I’ll tell you straight instead of making somebody up. We go county by county, from the Philadelphia playgrounds and the Main Line, through the steel-town pipeline of Western Pennsylvania, up into the coal country and the quiet northern tier, and out to a little border town called Farrell that has no business producing as many pros as it did. You’ll find out why basketball in this country didn’t really come from the sunbelt. It came from here. Tell me which county I got wrong down in the comments. Somebody’s grandfather is already typing it. 👉 Subscribe for more Pennsylvania history, sports, and small-town stories
