Cruising from North Shields to Hull, 16th August 2025 - Timelapse

Timelapsed footage of our trip, Taking our cruiser from Royal Quays Marina in North Shields, to Hull Marina. Overcast day but weather and sea quite fair, a moderate sea was forecast and experienced for some time but not bad enough to slow us down much, average speed for the whole leg was 22 knots, including the rivers and locks etc. 584 lites of diesel were used (this also included getting back from hull to goole which is not in this video). Vessel is a 1989 Princess 330 flybridge cruiser powered by twin volvo penta 200hp diesels via shafts. This is half the return trip from Goole to Edinburgh. We set off around 6:30am, arriving in Hull at 1:00pm. There was a lot of wild birds around Flamborough head, including puffins and dive-bombing gannets, which may or may not be visible in the timelapse. Interesting/Boring facts - Royal Quays marina lock access is 24hrs, any state of tide, whereas Hull is only accessible within 3hrs either side of high water. This creates to need to stick to planned speeds, if arriving at hull late there is nowhere safe to tie up and it is quite far to any safe point to avoid low water. We only decided to do the single longer stints as the weather allowed us to run at higher speeds than we would normally be able to cruise at. The Humber was very quiet, with flat calm conditions and little to no vessel movement, the Tyne was also like this with just 2 fishing boats on the move. The highest speed we reached was on the Humber, reaching 28 knots SOG for a short time while I put it through it's paces - according to the chartplotter. This is the highest speed we have ever reached on this boat, may of been helped by wind and the almost empty fuel and water tanks. Unlike the Humber, there is a 6 knot speed limit on the Tyne meaning that the start felt very slow. We were going with the tide for the first 4 hours or so, then against the tide once we reached spurn head.
