The Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) shared the growth journey of its newest Philippine eagle chick, named “Bayani,” following the public announcement of the young raptor on Tuesday. In a video posted on its Facebook page, the foundation documented the chick’s development from hatching to three months old. The footage showed Bayani as a fragile five-day-old chick taking its first sunbath. After a week, more feathers began to grow, and by two weeks old, the chick had started standing and attempting to walk. By the fourth week, Bayani’s growth had become more noticeable. At seven weeks old, the young eagle began practicing flapping its wings as part of its first wing exercises. As the weeks passed, the distinct features of a Philippine eagle gradually became more visible. “Bayani’s journey reflects the dedication behind our conservation breeding program for the critically endangered Philippine Eagle,” the Philippine Eagle Foundation said in their Facebook post. The name “Bayani,” a Filipino word for hero, was chosen by the chick’s adopter, Procon Grumbach, to celebrate the courage and hope symbolized by every young Philippine eagle. The three-month-old chick is the offspring of Philippine eagles Dakila and Sinag. It was produced through cooperative artificial insemination as part of the foundation’s conservation breeding program. Bayani was successfully bred and hatched at the National Bird Breeding Sanctuary in Davao City. The Philippine Eagle Foundation said it remains committed to ensuring the young eagle’s overall health and well-being. The Philippine eagle is the largest forest raptor in the Philippines and one of the rarest eagles in the world. It is listed as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), with an estimated 400 pairs left in the wild. Since 2024, three Philippine eagle chicks have hatched at the National Bird Breeding Sanctuary. However, Chick 30 survived only for a few days, while Chick 31 lived for nearly four months. — Report from Hernel Tocmo, ABS-CBN News For more ABS-CBN News videos, click the link below:    • ABS-CBN News   For more Breaking News & Live Coverage videos, click the link below:    • Breaking News & Live Coverage   For more latest news and analysis from ABS-CBN News videos, click the link below:    • The latest news and analysis from ABS-CBN ...   For more News Digital News Raw Cuts, click the link below:    • Плейлист   Subscribe to the ABS-CBN News channel! - http://bit.ly/TheABSCBNNews Watch full episodes on iWant for FREE here: http://iwanttfc.com Visit our website at http://news.abs-cbn.com Facebook:   / abscbnnews   Twitter:   / abscbnnews   Instagram:   / abscbnnews   #Bayani #PhilippineEagle #ABSCBNNews
