One morning started with a misty view from the balcony and ended with a breathtaking trek to the ancient Afkule Monastery. Join me for a short, fulfilling journey through the forests, down dirt roads, and up to the stunning cliffs overlooking the sea. About the Video After waking up to a beautiful misty morning in Kayaköy, I grabbed my camera, hopped into my pickup truck, and headed out toward Afkule. The drive was incredibly enjoyable, especially the bumpy dirt road cutting right through the forest. After leaving the truck behind, I started the uphill trek on foot. Reaching the top plateau and seeing the open sea for the first time in a while was unforgettable. From there, I hiked downhill to the ancient monastery ruins, spent some time deeply relaxing right at the edge of the cliff, and enjoyed the massive sea views. The hike back was warm, sunny, and the perfect end to a deeply fulfilling Saturday. I'm so happy to share this peaceful trip with you! 🏛️ Quick History: Afkule Monastery (The Tower of Forgiveness) Built during the early Byzantine period (around the 5th or 6th Century), this site is historically known as Çileler Manastırı (Monastery of Trials). Legend says it was carved entirely out of the sheer rock face by hand by a lone hermit monk named Saint Eleftherios, who sought absolute isolation and spiritual penance.
