A quiet journey through the historic valley of Kayaköy on a moody, overcast day. Driving the truck up the dirt roads to Belen for a misty view of the valley, followed by a walk to the ancient Lycian tombs on the north side. The rock-cut tombs and roadside sarcophagi seen in the video date back to the 4th century BC, from the ancient Lycian city of Karmylassos. The Lycians carved these tombs high into the cliffs, believing that winged creatures would carry the souls of the dead to the afterlife. The massive stone sarcophagi near the road were elite monuments, built with distinct pointed lids modeled after traditional Lycian wooden houses. As the rain picks up, the journey continues through the car window, capturing the relaxing rhythm of a rainy drive home, ending with a warm cup of tea. Thank you for watching.
