Test your hiragana reading with 140 everyday Japanese verbs! Each verb appears for 5 seconds — try to read it before the timer runs out. Then see the romaji, the English meaning and a moving picture of the action, and hear the word spoken twice by two native-style voices (female and male). All verbs are in their dictionary form — the starting point for every other verb form. The verbs get harder level by level, so you can see exactly where your reading is strong and where you need practice: 🟨 Level 1 – Basic hiragana, 2 letters (みる, いく, ねる) 🟦 Level 2 – Basic hiragana, 3–4 letters (あるく, はしる, おもう) 🟧 Level 3 – Voiced marks ゛゜ (たべる, あそぶ, およぐ) 🟥 Level 4 – Small ゃ ゅ ょ (しゃべる, べんきょうする, りょうりする) 🟪 Level 5 – Small っ and long vowels (びっくりする, そうじする, とおる) How to practise: 1. Say each verb out loud before the timer ends. 2. Pause the video if you need more time — that's fine! 3. Watch again in a few days and see how many more you can read. Tell us in the comments: how many of the 140 could you read? 👇 ⏱️ Chapters 00:00 Level 1 – Basic, 2 letters 05:13 Level 2 – Basic, 3–4 letters 10:59 Level 3 – Voiced marks (が, ぱ) 17:04 Level 4 – Small ゃ ゅ ょ 19:21 Level 5 – Small っ and long sounds 22:35 Finish Next video: Japanese adjectives in hiragana.
