I Was NOT Expecting This Many Cucumbers

I planted just 10 cucumber seeds this year. Eight came up — and they completely took over one little concrete planter. Those cucumbers had one job: become pickles. We had finally eaten the last jar of homemade dill pickles I made several years ago, so I planted more cucumbers and got back to work. In this episode, I harvest what those eight plants have produced, make another batch of dill pickles, and compare the cost of my homemade pickles with a jar from the grocery store. And cost isn’t the only reason I’m making my own. I also take a look at recent pickle and cucumber recalls involving glass and Salmonella — which made that little packet of cucumber seeds look even better. For my pickles, I use Mrs. Wages dill pickle mix and Pickle Crisp and follow the package directions. Thanks for spending a little time on the farm with us.
