Inside Golden Mile Tower 🇸🇬 | Singapore’s Retro 1970s Cinema Landmark

Step inside Golden Mile Tower, one of those Singapore buildings that feels like a little time capsule from the 1970s. 🇸🇬 Located along Beach Road, Golden Mile Tower is often confused with its better-known neighbour, the former Golden Mile Complex — but this is a completely separate building with its own story. The 22-storey development was designed by the Goh Hock Guan Design Team with Tay Joo Teck. Its podium was ready for occupation in 1973, while the entire tower was completed a few years later. Its bold concrete exterior, rounded corners and distinctive capsule-shaped windows give the building a very different look from Singapore’s modern glass towers. One of its biggest claims to fame was the Golden Cinema. When it opened in the 1970s, the huge theatre had around 1,900 seats and was regarded as one of the largest and most luxurious cinemas in the region. Cinema remains part of Golden Mile Tower today. Filmhouse opened in February 2026 in the former premises of The Projector, while Carnival Cinemas also operates within the cinema space.
