Bible in a Year Day 282 Luke 9:7-17 Mark 6:14-56 Matthew 14:1-36 John 6:1-21 Luke explains that Herod is confused about who John the Baptist and Jesus are. He thought that Jesus might be John risen from the dead. Herod may have been feeling guilty, as he ordered the head of John the Baptist be given as a gift to his wife’s daughter. When Jesus heard about John, He took his 12 by boat to a secluded place in Bethsaida. The crowds saw where they were going and got there first. Him. He fed the large crowd, 5000 men plus women and children, from the 5 loaves and 2 fish they had, and 12 baskets of food were left over. The Book of John has more details on this story. John also includes the fact that Jesus was aware the people wanted to make Him king, so He withdrew alone to the mountain to pray. When Jesus finished praying, He walked across the water (the Sea of Capernaum) to where His disciples were straining against the wind to row the boat. They were terrified when they saw Him, as their hearts were hardened. According to Matthew, Peter tried to walk across the water to Jesus. Peter did alright until he became terrified by the wind and nearly drowned. Jesus told them not to be afraid and got into the boat. Everywhere Jesus went, crowds brought their sick to be healed. Even those who just touched the fringe of His cloak were healed.
